Please make sure that all the exercise books are marked up to date, and that the new teacher(s) receive the books no later than Tuesday 2nd September.

It would also be extremely useful to indicate at what point in the specification you had reached by the end of Summer Term 2008

You can use a number of videos for Biology topic on Metabolism…..

A number of videos of Hummingbirds (taken on vacation in Arizona) are available at

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mjovery

You can easily EMBED these videos in your presentations.

Some key facts about Hummingbirds:

Hummingbirds feed on the nectar of plants and are important pollinators, especially of deep-throated, tubular flowers. Like bees, they are able to assess the amount of sugar in the nectar they eat; they reject flower types that produce nectar which is less than 12% sugar and prefer those whose sugar content is around 25%. Nectar is a poor source of nutrients, so hummingbirds meet their needs for protein, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, etc. by preying on insects and spiders, especially when feeding young.

Just a reminder that we should have finished our 2nd topic with Yr 11 by end of this week.  You may, if you wish, set them the EQs out of the NT book to do as a test.

Next week is the week for improving and copying up module 3 coursework.  The coursework must be returned to students with detailed information on as to how it can be improved.  It should also be marked as it stands at the moment, so pupils know what grade it is at roughly. Remember – 30/40 = C grade

If you feel that you need to do any further coursework moderation then please supply me with some examples of work and I will sort out a time convenient for all.

The last date for pupils to complete this work is Friday 25th January.  We need to then start on the marking of the work asap.  I will be asking for final marks just after half term.

The 4 weeks from w/c 28th January are for completion of module 1 coursework.  The booklets to help with the completion of this are in the grey filing cabinet in C2 in labelled folders. There are no computer rooms booked for you this time.  You will have to either book your own, or use the information collected the last time we attempted to do this work.  Apologies but until we get our own laptops this is the situation  (can i remind everyone the students had 4 weeks at the end of year 10 to complete this)

Any problems please see me

Thanks

TW
